POPULAR rapper Olamide Adedeji, a.ka. Baddo has reinforced his campaign against drug abuse, with visuals for his hit song ‘Science Student’, featuring 120 dancers.
The ‘king of the streets’ shared the news on Monday, in a series of posts with snippets of the video through his Instagram handle @baddosneh.
He wrote: “#Sciencestudent, the official video is out now on my Vevo, 120 dancers!! Respect them.”
The creative direction was developed by Guinness World record dancer Kaffy and shot by celebrity music director, Unlimited LA.
The 7-minute long clip shows the rapper walking through a building filled with drug addicts before finally breaking out signifying a win in the war against drug abuse.
Drug abusers are seen in different stages of mental instability with ‘No to drug abuse’ inscriptions flashing on the walls.
The video also features a dance-off similar to the style in Michael Jackson’s ‘Thriller’ video, with the trending ‘Shaku Shaku’ dance taking centre stage.
A special message signed off the end of the video, it read: “Be smart, don’t start, choose to refuse, be above the influence. Say No to drugs.”
The video is a sequel to the ‘Not To Be Broadcast’ (NTBB) warning issued on the song by the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) in January.
The NBC proscribed the song from being broadcast on all radio and television stations.
The song, which has been trending massively on social media with the hashtag #Sciencestudent, is a Young John and BBanks produced track released by Olamide in 2018.
The singer had earlier come out after the ‘NTBB’ ban to reiterate that the song stands against drug abuse amongst young people, in contradiction to the popular opinion that it supports the trend.
Nollywood actress Kemi ‘Lala’ Akindoju and filmmaker Don Pedro were amongst prominent voices that called for songs of ‘Science Student’ nature to be banned from public broadcast.
While building anticipation for the release of the video, the YBNL boss advised youths to stay away from drugs and stated that he will continue to crusade against drug abuse.
Olamide, who raps mostly in Yoruba, has been described as the voice of the ghetto.
He recently bagged the ‘Listeners choice’ award at the just concluded Soundcity MVP awards.
The Bariga born artist, who has seven albums to his name, came into limelight in 2011 with his debut album ‘Rapsodi’ before starting his label ‘YBNL’ in 2012. (Tribune)
